*Yaaaaaaawn* Well, that’s been a nice hibernation. So what’s going on in 2010? Wait, it’s almost 2013 you say? Oh jeez, I guess I should have set my alarm. Here’s the deal: making movies and animations is hard. I love doing it and hope to do more in the future, but I just haven’t been […]

White of Eye has been hibernating but is just taking a rest.. when White of Eye wakes up, White of Eye will be very hungry and will probably go eat a fish or something. And then make an awesome movie. Perhaps about eating a fish. One small bit of news: portlandfilm.org is featuring some of […]

I got an email from Thomas Phillipson at the NW Film Center a few days ago that begins: “It is with heavy heart and a wince that I inform you that your entry was not selected for the 36th Northwest Film & Video Festival…” *sigh* oh well, maybe next year. This year’s NW Film Fest […]

Just heard about the NW Filmmakers Night II going on at the Bagdad Tuesday, Jan 19th. Short film submissions will be accepted Oct 1-Dec 7. Currently no instructions on the McMenamins site on how to submit films. Also, if you want to get naked for a Flaming Lips video, check this out.

Drew from the Free Box sent me an invite that sounds like fun: a fundraiser for an upcoming feature film called “The Corners” by Keith Apland. It’ll be next Wednesday Sept 16th 7:30pm at Kelly’s Olympian. For a $5 suggested donation, the entertainment includes: 2 new unreleased Free Box episodes a showing of “Winona” (directed […]

As I mentioned last post, there will be showing of the best of the 48 Hour Film Project at the Hollywood Theater this Monday at 7:30pm. If I remember correctly from last year, it sold out, so you should get there early to make sure you get a seat. I look forward to seeing what […]

If you see people running around Portland frantically filming scenes this weekend, it’s probably for the 48 Hour Film Project. 56 teams are participating with filming starting Friday night and final edits due on Sunday night. All of the finished pieces will be shown next Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Hollywood Theater, and a […]

For this short comedy I borrowed another actor from the Free Box, Jeremy Benjamin, and a couple of my friends from the Forgery theater group, Sarah Dyrhaug and Paul Susi. They did a great job with the script and I made them do way too many takes, so I give them a big thanks for […]

It seems that my WOE blog is pretty influential.. or so some seem to think. I was recently contacted by a couple of people I have never met about helping them promote upcoming showings of their projects through this site. One of them was for an indie film called “Ink” that’ll be showing at the […]

How did I not hear about this earlier? The Portland Undergound Film Fest starts tonight! All showings $6 at the Clinton Street Theater.

Just wanted to give a shout out to my friend and fellow moviemaker Aaron Suring at Alaska Robotics for his outstanding performance at the World Beard and Moustache Championships. He placed second in the “Alaska Whaler” category. Check him out 28 seconds into this CNN video. Bravo, Aaron! Peruse the recent posts at akrobotics.com for […]

I added together all the movies I watched last week and the total came to 46. Sure, they were mostly short movies, but still.. 46 movies. And most of those locally made. I am experiencing an exquisite mixture of movie-making inspiration and movie-watching fatigue. Hopefully just the inspiration lasts. PDX Film Festival I was blown […]

I just found out about PDX Film Fest which is happening at the Clinton Street Theater May 6-10th. Here’s their short description of one movie I plan on seeing: We are very excited to present Brett Gaylor’s documentary RiP: A Remix Manifesto, which tackles the tricky subject of copyright in the age of the internet […]

This just in from the folks at Gold Coyote Super Short Film and Video Competition: Thank you for entering your work to the Gold Coyote Super Short Film and Video Competition. We are happy to inform you that we will be including your title “The List” in our evening’s program of films to be judged by […]

Long time, no news! I’ve been away in Vietnam since early March, but now I’m back and ready to make some more movies. I have a few things in the works: another short comedy, Storytime Adventures episodes two and three, a quirky piece about a guy with a memory problem and also a few music […]

This is my second WOE movie and I think it turned out pretty well. Teresa and Drew did an awesome job of acting, especially when it came to keeping in the same positions between takes. I shot this with one camera, so all those different angles you see are different takes. I was surprised how […]

You may have noticed that we are in the midst of the Portland International Film Festival. Unfortunately I had to miss the showing that I most wanted to see, the collection of local shorts.. apparently the schedulers did not contact my soccer team to ensure I wasn’t going to be on the turf during the […]

This was my easiest script to shoot, so I figured I would pick this one to start with to give my equipment a test run. Special thanks to Dick McMahon who recorded narration way out in Coos Bay and Iretsu for use of their song. Credits James: Chase Reeves Kurt: Zach Brown Narration: Dick McMahon […]

I had my first White of Eye screening! I went to the amateur filmmakers night at Kelly’s Olympian and showed two movies: Storytime Adventures #1 and my recently completed short comedy Documented Roommate (I’ll have that one online soon.) They both went over well.. the singing crabs got a lot of laughs. It was definitely […]

This weekend is the Northwest Film Festival! I hope to have an entry in there next time around, but for now I will be happy to watch other local filmmakers’ offerings. As usual, I’m particularly excited about the shorts.. there are three rounds of them, each shown twice. I plan on hitting up “Great Speeches […]

I’ve been working on some visual elements for Bombs Into You‘s stage show.. the idea is that we would project some video on/behind us as we play and have a different video sequence for each song. We haven’t figured out how to sync up the video with our backing electronic tracks yet, but I at […]

I am starting to experiment with ideas for music videos for my band Bombs Into You. I shot this footage in my basement and then played with it in After Effects and Premiere. I was thinking of using some of the effects for our new track My Machine along with a story sequence. Before producing […]

My primary RSS feed is working! Use the Entries link under RSS at left to subscribe. I’m using Feedburner so that I can track feed statistics. I don’t know much about the service but it seems like there might be some other useful features in there besides stats… we’ll see.

So here it is, whiteofeye.com version 1.0! I have plenty of upgrades and tweaks I want to do, but what I have up now will serve just fine as a starting point. I’ll integrate the improvements as I go. The purpose of the site is to showcase my video/animation pieces, so my focus in the […]
